*The Bowling Effort*
After losing the toss and being put out to field, the boys had to graft hard against a strong Southampton Super Kings lineup who racked up a menacing 280/9 from their 40 overs. Opening the attack, Rishi Thareendra set a brilliant tone right from the off, keeping things incredibly tight with an exceptional, economical spell of 4-0-16-1. Hector Eshelby proved to be a major thorn in their side, showing great control across a lengthy 7-over shift to pick up 2 vital wickets for 39 runs. Tanjam Islam Shafin and Abdul Rahman Asmari also kept the pressure mounted with a wicket apiece.
But the real story of the innings was Junaid Abbasi on his St Cross debut. In a spectacular, star-turn performance, Junaid completely dismantled the opposition's momentum by ripping through the middle order to finish with stellar figures of 5-0-22-3. To top it off, he even effected a brilliant run-out, making it 4 total wickets in an absolute dream debut that kept the target within sight.
*The Chase*
Sent in to chase down a massive 281 for victory, the St Cross reply got off to an absolute flyer. Hasnain Abbasi anchored the top order beautifully, carving out a well-deserved 61 off 66 balls with 11 boundaries. He found an incredible partner in Abdul Rahman Asmari, and together the opening pair put on a massive 148-run partnership to completely break the back of the chase. Abdul played an absolute blinder of an innings, smashing a magnificent 96 off just 77 balls, including 10 fours and 3 massive sixes, cruelly falling just four runs short of a spectacular century. Rishi Thareendra then kept the foot firmly on the gas, bludgeoning a rapid 47 off 30 deliveries to keep us well ahead of the rate.
*The Twist & The Finish*
However, it wouldn’t be a Sunday XI match without a very shaky period! Ranjit P started causing chaos, ripping through our middle order and sending Matthew Fletcher, Tom Eshelby, and Shopon Ahmed all back to the pavilion for ducks. With wickets tumbling and anxiety rising, it was up to Raj Magar to steady the ship with a gritty, unbeaten 19. He was joined by Theo Foley, who came out swinging with an ice-cool, counter-attacking 15* off 11 balls to cross the finish line with 23 balls to spare. St Cross finished on 282/7, securing a phenomenal 3-wicket victory and claiming bragging rights for the series!
An unbelievable team effort to hunt down a huge total. 2-1 up, we go again next week against Racqueteers!
**Player of the Match:**
**Abdul Rahman Asmari** (For his crucial breakthrough with the ball and a match-winning, blockbuster 96 to setup this massive chase).
