St Cross Symondians clung on to beat ECB Southern Premier League rivals Burridge by four runs after Dan Stancliffe had threatened to win the game for the visitors single handed. The visitors’ lead all-rounder finished 70 not out with Burridge ending four runs adrift of the St Cross total of 230 when his last wicket partner, Sully White was trapped leg before wicket by Raffi Organ.

His dismissal ended a gallant fightback by Burridge, who were not in great shape at 140-6 when Stancliffe was joined by Oli Southon (31) for a 59-run stand which rekindled Burridge’s prospects. A three-wicket spell by Charlie Gwynn (4-26) tilted the match back in Symondians’ favour at 205-9, but Stancliffe and White proceeded to add a further 21 runs before the tenth wicket fell.

It was too close for comfort for St Cross, who earlier batted themselves into a strong position through Greg McKenzie (66) and latterly Gwynn (50). Southon (3-33) and Ben White (3-39) shared six wickets for Burridge, while Queenslander Toby Snell, who played for Australia in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cup in Antigua, bagged three catches on debut, later getting a third ball duck.
