​Basingstoke & North Hants sprang an early Southern Premier League T20 Cup shock by beating holders St Cross Symondians by two runs in their opening North group match.
Basingstoke's first competitive victory since last August will have lifted spirits at May's Bounty and has opened up the six-team group which also includes Alton, Sparsholt, and Odiham & Greywell and Rowledge, who meet at King Street on Sunday at noon.
A half-century start by Matt Philp (20) and Matt Deadman (45) gave Basingstoke the perfect start, one which Matt Donaldson (19) and Brad Neal (14) were able to build upon.
Fielding a near full strength side, St Cross rotated their bowlers, using seven in all to peg Basingstoke to 113-6.
Gregor McKenzie (37) gave St Cross a forceful start, but Brad Neal (3-16), Donaldson (2-18) and Rakitha Perera (2-17) continued to make inroads.
Last pair Olly Knight and Aussie Max Keogh needed to score 20 from the last four overs, but Knight was run out by Philp off the last ball to leave St Cross 111 all out.
Totton & Eling enjoyed an easy eight-wicket won over Langley Manor (89), as dd Burridge (167-6) over Fareham & Crofton (94).
