The Women’s 2s previous results were two losses by four runs each and a win by one run, so a tight game was on the cards when we travelled to Eversley. We batted first, and were 17/2 having lost openers Camilla Laney (3) and Evie Graham (14). This brought together Kirstin Davenport, fresh off making 96 the previous week, and Nicole Fisher, playing only her second St Cross match. The pair came together in the 7th over and went from strength to strength, not being parted until the penultimate over. Kirstin used her power to hit 13 fours and a six, whilst Nicole was more restrained but was an excellent foil in their 160 runs partnership which gave us a solid platform. Nicole was first to go, for 43 off 81 balls with 4 fours, then Kirstin was run out in the last over for 80 off 96 balls. We finished the 35 overs on 174/4, a decent total thanks to Kirstin and Nicole.
Eversley made a solid start in reply, getting to 44 before losing their first wicket, and thereafter they lost wickets at regular intervals, but at the same time keeping up with the scoring rate. At 136/6 they were in with a chance, but then Nicole caught their top scorer off Michelle Murphy, then Becca Gunstone and Emma Tayler (with two wickets) ran through the tail, and Eversley were dismissed for 161, 13 runs short so a relatively comfortable margin – at least for this season so far! Other wickets were taken by youngsters Grace Crute and Camilla (two each), Lesley Hubbard and a run out by Becca. We are now up to third in the table on the back of this result.
