The first round of the Barfoot Cup saw Trojans C visit St Cross on a warm but increasingly cloudy and dark evening. Trojans won the toss and decided to bowl first. Unfortunately neither of our openers had arrived so Freddie and Sam stepped in and got us off to a great start with Freddie retiring quickly passing 30 with some lovely boundaries. Sam continued building up the runs with Harvey before falling agonisingly 1 run short of retiring on 29. Harvey soon retired having batted really well with 5 lovely boundaries. Rory and Arthur continued to build a formidable total and scored quickly with Rory finishing the innings with a big 6, leaving St Cross on 139 off 16 overs (we cut the match short due to the fading light!). A fine effort by all those who batted mixing some big shots with great running between the wickets.
Ollie and Oscar opened the bowling with some pacy deliveries but without success until Oscar made the break through with a full fast straight delivery in the 4th over. After some fine resistance from the Trojans number 3 we kept things relatively tight and picked up the odd wicket to make sure of a good victory by 46 runs.
The most valuable lesson we learned this evening is that we need to bowl straighter and fuller more consistently. When they did, they got wickets!
Really well done to all who played!
