St Cross win against Hampshire Hoggets

Benoy Shah

Lovely evening, lovely performance, great victory!

St Cross U11 took on Hampshire Hoggetts U11 on a beautiful evening at the Hogget's stunning home ground.

St Cross batted first. Aditya (32 no) and Hector (30no) laid a solid foundation at the top of the order, with both retiring after productive innings! Nat chipped in with a very useful 19 as well, helping us to an overall total of 139 off our 20 overs.

As the sun was setting, St Cross took to the field and immediately destroyed the opposition's top order courtesy of James Wait's incredible first over. James hit the stumps four times in his first six balls, though due to 'first ball grace' this meant only two wickets, but nonetheless a very impressive opening over which no doubt sent a chill down the oppostion's spine!

A much improved fielding performance saw a great high catch from Nat, a run out thanks to a direct hit from William and a great caught & bowled by Aditya after their best batsman (Isaac) had blasted the ball straight back at him! I think the boys saw today the merits of a solid fielding performance. In addition to James' two wickets, Aditya also took a couple and Hector, Oliver, Lucas and Chris also took a wicket each.

Very well done to all!

:)
