Captained by Hari Arunan and coached by Mike Bastin, St Cross played away in picturesque Hursley Park.
We welcomed debutants Helen Bastin and Hughie Pemberton - both made valuable contributions on the field. We also had two sets of siblings in Helen and Daniel Bastin and Atana and Hari Arunan and seasoned campaigners from the previous year, Nat Eaton and Oliver Punnett.
St Cross were put into bat by Hursley Park, who won the toss. A captain's knock by Hari (with 3 boundaries and a six) followed by good, steady batting from Daniel, Nat and Oliver saw us build a total of 284 for the loss of only 2 wickets. In their reply, Hursley Park produced some great efforts with the bat to score 274 but were regularly checked by our bowlers and fielders who were very disciplined and economical. The girls were in the thick of it all with Atana claiming 2 wickets (including one from the first ball of her over) and Helen producing a marvelous caught and bowled wicket from a slow left arm ball.
A big thank you to Maz Eaton for doing the scoring and even bigger thank you to all the parents who continue to support the cricketing activities of their youngsters and the club.
